The Near West Side Partners Art Initiative is an innovative partnership between Near West Side communities, businesses and stakeholders, and diverse professional artist from the City of Milwaukee. Established in 2017 with the goal to enhance a shared sense of place and community identity in the urban landscape of the Near West Side, while creating space for the creative minds of our community.
Targets of the Initiative include: creating spaces for diverse communities to engage socially, respond actively, and cooperatively produce art that empowers individuals; strengthening neighborhoods by activating under-utilized buildings and public spaces; and establishing the Near West Side as a critical cultural center in Milwaukee.
Based on Matthew Desmond's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Evicted makes its national tour debut at the Mobile Design Box. Previously on display in Washington D.C. at the National Building Museum, Evicted is an immersive exhibition that introduces visitors to the intimate, painful process of low-income renter eviction. Learn more about the exhibit here.
The exhibit is free to the public and on display at the Mobile Design Box - 753 N. 27th Street - from June 21 through September 30. The gallery is open Fridays from 5 - 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
From the Mobile Lantern to Quarterly Gallery Nights, there’s always something happening in the Near West Side. These special exhibits activate and enliven the neighborhood and showcase the creativity of Near West Side residents and the Milwaukee community.
