The Near West Side has several shovel-ready and redevelopment sites located in Opportunity Zones that are prime for development.

Focus on: 27th Street

Ample opportunities for new development and redevelopment of mixed-use buildings existing along the 27th Street corridor.

Development Opportunities:

  • Redevelop the former Milwaukee County City Campus complex as a Food and Beverage (FaB) Center of Excellence. Administrative, lab, and incubator spaces can occupy the former County offices, with start-up and existing food and beverage retailers and restaurants tenanting the largely vacant historic storefronts.

  • Repurpose the vacant Wisconsin Avenue School with hospitality or office uses and improve the northwest corner of North 27th and Wisconsin Avenue with landscaping, decorative fencing and other pedestrian amenities.

  • Redevelop a historic storefronts as offices, business incubator, or shared work environment with residential offerings.

  • Build fresh on a remediated site on a prominent corner presenting a unique opportunity for mixed-use building featuring restaurant/retail and office space with on-site parking.

  • Redevelop a historic commercial storefront as restaurant/retail with parking located to the rear of the parcel. Activate and enliven the adjacent green open space abutting North 27th Street.
